Enlightenment Sound Bites

Someone recently posted a quote on Facebook: “Don’t say you don’t have enough time.  You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Theresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein.”

There are so many of these Enlightenment Sound Bites around – and while they may be meant to inspire, they can often set us up to “fail” at yet something else.

I hate to be a party pooper, but simple things like this don’t take into account the complexity of our world today, the multiple places our attention needs to go, the demands of a world that says we are “on call 24/7.”

Thirty years ago, people had a weekend that was respected rather than needing to work seven days a week. They were allowed to take a lunch break without appearing to be a “slacker” who “isn’t serious about their job.” Their boss did not feel that texting or calling them on their honeymoon to handle a work-related problem was appropriate. (Yes, I know someone to whom this happened.) We did not have to deal with social media, web marketing, a cell phone, texting and a dozen other things that either (a) USED to be free but now cost money or (b) we didn’t’ have then and must have now to deal with the world and work.

To those who say they do not have enough time — I empathize. But instead of comparing yourself to famous people and setting yourself up for another “fail,” I compassionately suggest that you look around at those who take your time and give nothing back but negativity, or those who take you for granted and do not enrich your life in any way. Learn to say “no” to them and “yes” to yourself. It is not easy, but it can be done. And then, you WILL have more time. And you will have fought for it and earned it, so treasure it and do something with it that illuminates your life.

Rerouting Opportunities

I know a fellow intuitive who’s wildly different from everyone else in his family. For them, failure is shameful, not to be discussed, and you either succeed at something or don’t bother doing it at all. That’s why they tend to think of him as a failure, even though he’s not. He doesn’t care.  “Failure?  [...]

We See the World Not As It Is, But As We Are

In light of the devastation of Hurricane Irene, I’m pulling out of the archives one of my old InfoLightenment columns that I find pertinent.  It’s my answer when people say “I’ve been sending White Light to all the hurricane victims.  Isn’t that enough?  After all, I don’t live there…”   “We see the world not [...]

Your Truth, My Truth, and the One In the Middle

Facebook can be an amazing place, where you find yourself counseling, cheering, or confronting matters with total strangers.  A few days ago, I watched a fascinating rollout of “my beliefs trump your beliefs” on a friend’s posting regarding wanting to feel better by shedding pounds. The friend asked us all to make a wish for [...]

No Is A FABULOUS Idea

It’s guaranteed that, no matter what show I do or where it is, someone sits down with me and talks about stress.  Sometimes it manifests as a foggy brain, or a feeling of depression.  Often, when I ask them what they want or what would bring them some happiness, they stare at me blankly.  “I don’t know.  I never [...]

The Practicality of Angels

I never considered myself an angel person when I started on the Lightworker’s path.  I didn’t want to be, frankly.  I valued practical, even as an intuitive.   I gravitated more toward numerology, with its formulae and rules; I dove into Tarot cards, whose archetypal information I found to be something concrete.   Not so angelic beings.  [...]

Let God Surprise You

For many years, November has seen the end of my show season, finishing with a flourish in Liverpool, New York. This traditional final weekend of lectures, clients and show booths signals the beginning of my “down time” of the year – six weeks or so for me to recharge, revamp my schedule for the following [...]
